Reference | [1]PII is important in regulation of nitrogen metabolism but not required for heterocyst formation in the Cyanobacterium Anabaena sp. PCC 7120. Zhang Y,Pu H,Wang Q,Cheng S,Zhao W,Zhang Y,Zhao J J. Biol. Chem. 2007, Nov, 16;282(46):33641-8. [ PMID:17875643] |
Functional Description From UniProt | FUNCTION: P-II indirectly controls the transcription of the GS gene (glnA). P-II prevents NR-II-catalyzed conversion of NR-I to NR-I-phosphate, the transcriptional activator of glnA. When P-II is phosphorylated, these events are reversed. In nitrogen-limiting conditions, when the ratio of Gln to 2-ketoglutarate decreases, P- II is phosphorylated which allows the deadenylation of glutamine synthetase (GS), thus activating the enzyme (By similarity) |
